is it safe to open my presto pressure cooker by just lifting the rocking regulator off?

— asked by Sam

No, absolutely not. Yeah, this one's common and dangerous. The lid is locked by internal pressure. Don't open by removing the rocker.

You must release the pressure first. Use the natural release method (let it sit off heat) or the quick release method (run cold water over the lid). The lid lock indicator will show when pressure is gone and it's safe to open.
