Diagnosis
The Molekule Air Pro is designed with a safety-first power logic circuit. When a power outage occurs, the internal capacitors discharge, and the unit enters a "Cold Boot" state. Unlike some smart appliances that feature an "Auto-Restart" or "Memory" function to resume previous settings, the Air Pro defaults to an 'Off' state for safety reasons—specifically to prevent the PECO plasma field from igniting or the high-RPM fans from surging if power returns inconsistently or with a voltage spike.
If your unit used to restart automatically, you were likely experiencing a brownout (temporary voltage drop) rather than a full power outage. In a brownout, the capacitors maintain enough residual charge to keep the logic board active. In a total outage, the system requires a physical trigger to re-engage the power relay. You can confirm this by checking the LED ring; if it is completely dark and unresponsive to the Molekule app, the unit has successfully entered its safety-off state and is awaiting a manual hardware trigger.
How to Fix It
Because the Air Pro does not have a software toggle to enable "Auto-Resume" after a total power loss, you must manually re-initialize the hardware. Follow these exact steps to ensure the unit boots correctly without triggering a fault code:
- Ensure the power cable is seated firmly into the base of the unit and the wall outlet. If you are using a surge protector, ensure the "Protected" LED is green; otherwise, plug the unit directly into a wall outlet to rule out a tripped breaker.
- Locate the physical power button on the front interface of the unit. Do not attempt to use the app first, as the Wi-Fi module will not be active until the main power relay is engaged.
- Press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds. You should see the LED ring pulse white, indicating the system is performing a self-diagnostic check on the PECO module and fan motor.
- Once the LED ring stabilizes, open the Molekule app on your smartphone. Navigate to the device settings and verify that the fan speed has returned to your preferred level (Low, Medium, or High), as the unit may default to "Auto" mode upon restart.
- If the unit is integrated with a smart home system (like Alexa or Google Home), verify the connection. After a power outage, the unit may take up to 3 minutes to reconnect to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band before voice commands become functional again.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Hard Logic Reset: If the physical button does not trigger a boot, the internal logic board may be "locked" due to a power surge. Unplug the unit from the wall. While unplugged, press and hold the power button for a full 30 seconds to drain all remaining electricity from the capacitors. Plug the unit back in and attempt to power on again.
- Inspect the Fuse/Circuit Breaker: Check your home's electrical panel for a tripped breaker. The Air Pro draws significant wattage during the initial PECO plasma ignition; if the outage was caused by a surge, the breaker may have tripped specifically for that circuit.
- Cycle the Wi-Fi Router: If the unit is on but the app says "Offline," your router may have rebooted after the outage and assigned a new IP address. Power cycle your router, wait 5 minutes, and then toggle the Wi-Fi settings in the Molekule app to re-pair the device.
- Check for "Filter Error" Lockout: Sometimes a power surge triggers a false "Filter Change" alert. If the LED ring flashes red, the unit may refuse to start. Remove the filter, ensure the contacts are clean, re-insert it firmly, and attempt the power-on sequence again.
Heads Up
- Surge Protection: Always use a high-quality surge protector (rated for at least 1000 Joules) with the Air Pro. The PECO module is sensitive to voltage fluctuations, and repeated hard power outages can degrade the plasma generator over time.
- Avoid Smart Plugs: Do not use a smart plug to "force" the unit to turn on. The Air Pro requires a physical button press to engage the relay; cutting power via a smart plug will only leave the unit in a permanent "Off" state when power returns.
- Firmware Updates: Ensure your unit is running the latest firmware via the app. While auto-resume isn't a standard feature, Molekule occasionally pushes updates that improve how the unit handles network reconnection after power loss.
- Dust Accumulation: After a power outage, if you notice the fan making a clicking sound upon restart, check the intake vents for dust buildup. A power-cycle often highlights mechanical wear that was previously unnoticed.
