The DCS334B is engineered for specific tolerances; if the blade tang is even a fraction of a millimeter too thin or the hole is slightly oversized, the locking pin cannot maintain a positive grip. You can confirm this by inserting a blade and attempting to pull it out without flipping the lever; if it slides out with minimal resistance, the clamp is either fouled by debris or the blade geometry is incompatible. In severe cases, the internal spring tension of the lever mechanism has weakened, meaning the "tightened" feel of the lever is an illusion caused by friction rather than actual clamping pressure.
How to Fix It
To restore the clamping integrity of your jigsaw, follow these precise steps:
- Disconnect the 20V Max battery immediately to prevent accidental activation during maintenance.
- Flip the blade locking lever to the fully open position. Remove any remaining blade from the chuck.
- Use a can of compressed air or an electric duster to blow out the clamping jaw. Direct the air specifically into the slot where the blade tang sits and around the small locking pin.
- Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to a cotton swab and scrub the internal faces of the clamp to remove sticky resins and pitch that may be preventing a flush fit.
- Inspect the locking pin (the small metal protrusion that enters the blade hole). Manually push it with a small screwdriver to ensure it snaps back into place instantly. If it feels "mushy," there is still debris inside.

- Check for Shoe Alignment: Ensure the base plate (shoe) is not bent. If the shoe is warped, it can put uneven pressure on the blade during a cut, effectively "prying" the blade out of the clamp through vibration and leverage.
