ecobee keeps saying 'recovery in progress' and my house is too hot/cold at the scheduled time.

DIAGNOSIS That's Smart Recovery doing its job, but it's starting way too early. It's a feature that learns how long your system takes to reach a temperature and starts early to hit your schedule 'on time'. If the timing is off, it feels like the schedule is broken.

FIX You can adjust this from the thermostat itself. 1) Press the menu icon (three lines). 2) Go to Settings > Preferences. 3) Scroll down to 'Smart Recovery'. You can toggle it off entirely here if you want. But if you want to keep it, the real fix is to let it learn better. Make sure your schedule is consistent for a few days and avoid manually overriding the temperature a lot. The algorithm needs stable data to calculate accurately.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the problem is that it's *never* reaching the temperature by the scheduled time, the issue might be your HVAC system's capacity, not the thermostat. An old heat pump or undersized AC unit might just take longer than Smart Recovery can compensate for. In that case, turning Smart Recovery off is the best bet to avoid long periods of discomfort.

HEADS UP Manually changing the temp on the app or dial constantly resets the learning process for Smart Recovery. Try to stick to the schedule you set for at least a week so it can get a good baseline.
