Diagnosis
Using a dry cloth on oily smudges just moves the oil around. You need the correct, minimal-moisture technique for the anti-reflective coating.
How to Fix It
Power the TV off and let it cool.
- Use a new, clean, lint-free microfiber cloth (like for glasses).
- Lightly mist the cloth with distilled water—never spray the screen directly.
- Gently wipe in a single, straight motion from top to bottom. Do not press hard or use circular motions.
- Use a dry section of another clean microfiber cloth to immediately buff off any remaining moisture in the same top-to-bottom motion.
If That Didn't Work
For stubborn spots, you can use a 50/50 mix of distilled white vinegar and distilled water on the cloth, not the screen. Test in an inconspicuous corner first. Avoid the edges where liquid can seep in.
Heads Up
Never use window cleaners, chemicals, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasive cloths (paper towels, tissues). They will permanently damage the anti-glare coating, leaving hazy patches that are visible when the screen is off.
