Another common cause is "filter expansion." As the HEPA filter accumulates dust and debris, it can physically expand slightly or shift forward against the rear cover. This creates internal pressure that pushes the cover outward against the locking tabs, making it feel as though the panel is glued or jammed shut. You can confirm this by looking for a slight bulge in the plastic casing near the top rear of the unit.

How to Fix It

To remove the rear cover without snapping the plastic tabs, follow this exact sequence:

1. Power down the unit and unplug it from the wall outlet to ensure the fan is completely stationary.
2. Place the purifier on a flat, stable surface. Stand behind the unit so you are facing the rear panel.
3. Locate the two shallow, vertical indentations on the left and right edges of the rear cover, specifically near the top rim.
4. Place your thumbs firmly into these indentations. Apply a strong, inward-pressing force toward the center of the machine while simultaneously pulling the top of the cover toward you.
