i cleaned the pre-filter but now the front grill won't snap back on all the way, there's a gap

Diagnosis

Because the pre-filter is a flexible fabric sleeve, it can easily shift during the cleaning process or become folded over itself when re-inserted. If even a small portion of the fabric is pinched between the filter frame and the chassis, it creates a physical obstruction that prevents the grill's plastic locking tabs from clicking into their recessed slots. You can confirm this by attempting to gently push the grill into place; if you feel a "spongy" resistance rather than a hard stop, the fabric is obstructing the path. Additionally, if the grill seems to snap in at the top but remains flared out at the bottom, the pre-filter has likely slid down the HEPA filter, creating a bulge at the base of the unit that pushes the grill outward.

How to Fix It

To resolve the gap and ensure a vacuum-tight seal, follow these precise steps to reset the filter assembly:

1. Pull the front grill completely off the unit. If it is partially snapped in, grasp the side edges firmly and pull straight forward to avoid snapping the plastic tabs.
2. Remove the True HEPA filter assembly entirely from the machine. This allows you to see the pre-filter alignment without the constraint of the unit's narrow chassis.
3. Slide the charcoal pre-filter sleeve off the HEPA filter. Lay the HEPA filter flat on a table.
4. Slide the pre-filter sleeve back onto the HEPA filter, ensuring the fabric is pulled tight across all four sides. There should be no wrinkles or folds in the material.
5. Ensure the bottom edge of the pre-filter is flush with the bottom edge of the HEPA filter frame. If the sleeve is sagging, it will bunch at the bottom of the purifier, preventing the grill from closing.
6. Slide the combined filter assembly back into the AC5350B chassis. Push it firmly until it hits the back wall of the unit.
7. Align the top tabs of the front grill first. Press firmly on the top edge until you hear a distinct click.
8. Move to the bottom corners and press inward until the grill sits completely flush against the white plastic housing. There should be no visible gap between the grill and the main body.

If That Didn't Work

• Check for debris in the grill tracks. Use a vacuum or a can of compressed air to clear the narrow channels where the grill tabs slide in. Even a small accumulation of dust bunnies or a piece of stray lint in the track can prevent a full seal.
