i keep getting logged out of the asus router admin page, like it won't save my password or settings.

DIAGNOSIS This is almost always a browser cache or cookie conflict. The router's web interface can get fussy with stored data, especially after a firmware update.

FIX 1) Open a new private or incognito browser window. 2) Type 192.168.50.1 (or 192.168.1.1) into the address bar to access the login. 3) Log in with your credentials. If it works in the private window, you need to clear your regular browser's cache and cookies for the router's IP address. Also, avoid using browser bookmarks for the admin page—type the IP fresh.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Try a different browser altogether (like Chrome if you use Edge, or vice-versa). Sometimes a browser extension is interfering. Disable ad-blockers or password managers temporarily for the router's IP address.

HEADS UP If you're using a really old firmware version, there were some early web interface bugs. Logging in via a private window first, then checking for and installing a firmware update from the admin page, can permanently solve it.
