Diagnosis
The leaking or loose fit is caused by an improper seal between the filter cartridge and the reservoir housing. If the filter is tilted or not fully depressed, water will bypass the filtration medium and leak over the top edge of the reservoir or drip directly into the pitcher without being filtered. This usually occurs when the locking groove on the filter is not perfectly aligned with the corresponding ridge in the pitcher's reservoir.
How to Fix It
To ensure a watertight seal, follow these steps:
- Remove the filter from the reservoir and empty any standing water.
- Inspect the rim of the reservoir for any debris or plastic flashing that might prevent a flush fit.
- Align the groove on the side of the Longlast filter with the internal ridge of the reservoir.
- Press the filter straight down with firm, steady pressure. You should feel the filter "lock" into place.
- Avoid twisting the filter during installation, as this can warp the seal and create gaps where water can escape.
If That Didn't Work
If the filter continues to leak after a firm reset, check for the following:
- Filter Compatibility: Ensure you are using the blue Longlast filter. While standard white filters may physically fit, they have different seating tolerances and may not seal correctly in a pitcher designed for Longlast mode.
- Inspect for Damage: Check the rubber O-ring or gasket on the filter for tears or deformities. If the seal is pinched or cracked, the filter must be replaced.
- Reservoir Cracks: Inspect the plastic housing for hairline fractures that may be allowing water to seep through.
Heads Up
To maintain the integrity of the seal, do not pour water directly onto the top of the filter. Instead, pour water along the side wall of the reservoir. This prevents the force of the stream from displacing the filter or pushing it out of its locked position.
