DIAGNOSIS The saw is most likely hitting its overload protection and shutting down to protect the motor. This isn’t a battery issue. It’s usually because you’re pushing it too hard, too fast, or the chain is dull or improperly tensioned, causing excessive load.
FIX First, ease up on the feed pressure. Let the chain speed and the sharp teeth do the work—don’t lean into the cut. Second, stop and sharpen your chain. A dull chain is the number one cause of overload in these saws. Third, verify your chain tension is correct (snug, but not tight) as a loose chain creates drag.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The tool has thermal protection for both the motor and the electronics. If you’ve been making long, heavy cuts, it might simply be overheating. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to cool down. Also, check that the battery is a high-output (HO) model, especially if you’re using a larger 12.0Ah battery. The standard M18 batteries can’t always deliver the sustained current the Fuel saw wants under heavy load.
HEADS UP This overload protection is a feature, not a bug. It’s saving your motor from a burnt-out stator. If you consistently trip it, you’re either using the wrong technique, need a sharper chain, or you’re trying to make cuts that are better suited for a gas-powered saw. This is a powerful cordless tool, but it has limits.
