my danby fridge suddenly stopped working, no light, no sound, nothing when plugged in

DIAGNOSIS You have no power to the unit. The most common cause is a failed thermal fuse on the main control board, often due to a voltage spike.

FIX First, check your outlet with another device. Then, unplug the fridge and remove the top grille or rear access panel to expose the control board. Visually inspect the board for a blown thermal fuse (a small, white rectangular component) or burned spots. Use a multimeter to check continuity of the fuse. A blown fuse means the board needs replacement.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The power cord itself may have an internal break. Check continuity from the prongs to the board connection. Also, the compressor start relay can fail catastrophically and trip the board's protection.

HEADS UP Always unplug the unit before inspecting the control board. Capacitors on the board can hold a charge even when unplugged.
