my milwaukee m18 drill just stopped working and feels really hot, is that bad?

Yeah, this one's common. The drill has an internal thermal overload that shuts it off to prevent damage. It's a safety feature, not a defect.

Fix:

1. Let the tool cool down completely. The operating temperature range for the tool and battery is between 14°F and 120°F.
2. Remove the battery pack to help it cool faster.
3. Once it's cooled, reinsert the battery and try again. It should work normally.

If that didn't work, the battery itself might be overheated. The charger won't start charging if the battery is outside 32°F to 104°F. Let the battery cool to room temperature.

Heads up: Don't store the tool or battery in a hot vehicle or in direct sunlight. Excessive heat kills lithium-ion batteries.
