my netgear nighthawk r7000 router just has a solid amber power light and the internet light is off, nothing works.

DIAGNOSIS The router failed to boot or establish a WAN connection. A solid amber power light indicates a boot failure, often due to corrupted firmware.

FIX Perform a 30-30-30 hard reset. Hold the rear reset pinhole button for 30 seconds. Keep holding while unplugging the router for 30 seconds. Plug it back in, still holding the button for a final 30 seconds. Release. Wait 5 minutes for a full reboot. The power light should turn white.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The firmware is likely bricked. Use Netgear's TFTP recovery method. Download the official R7000 .chk firmware file from Netgear's support site. Set your computer's IP to 192.168.1.2. With the router off, run a TFTP client, point it to the firmware file, set server to 192.168.1.1. Power on the router and immediately click 'Put File' in the TFTP client.

HEADS UP After TFTP recovery, you must perform the standard 30-30-30 reset again before configuring from scratch. Do not restore an old configuration backup.
