my vertuoplus just flashes orange three times and won't do anything, what does that mean?

DIAGNOSIS: That's the machine telling you it can't read the barcode on the coffee pod. It's a capsule recognition error, and the most likely cause is a dirty or obstructed scanner head inside the brewing chamber.

FIX: Unplug the machine. Lift the lever to open the head, then give the inside a good look. You'll see a little clear plastic dome in the center of the top part—that's the scanner. Use a dry, soft cloth (a microfiber glasses cloth is perfect) to gently wipe that dome and the rim of the pod holder. Make sure there's no old coffee grounds or water droplets on it. Close it, plug it back in, and try a fresh pod.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: The pod itself might be the issue. Try a different, brand-new Nespresso Vertuo pod. If the new pod works, the first one just had a bad or smudged barcode. If it still flashes orange, the optical scanner might have failed, which usually means a service call.

HEADS UP: Never use anything wet, abrasive, or pointed to clean that scanner dome. You'll scratch it or cause a short, and then it's definitely toast. Just a dry, gentle wipe is the move.
