This is not a mechanical failure or a leak alert, but rather a programmed reminder based on a combination of a timed interval (typically 60 days) and an estimated gallon count. The internal timer is designed to trigger once the filter has processed approximately 100 gallons of water. Because the device cannot actually "sense" the purity of the water in real-time, it uses this alternating color sequence to signal that the carbon block and ion-exchange resin are likely saturated with contaminants and the flow rate may begin to decrease. You can confirm this is the issue if the water flow has slowed significantly or if you notice a slight change in taste, though the light often triggers before these symptoms become obvious.
How to Fix It
To resolve the flashing lights and restore the indicator to a steady "good" status, you must replace the filter cartridge and manually reset the electronic monitor.
- Turn off the water supply to the faucet to prevent splashing during the swap.
- Locate the filter cartridge (typically the PFM400 replacement) and rotate it counter-clockwise or press the release trigger to remove the exhausted unit from the housing.
- Remove the protective cap from the new PUR replacement filter.
- Insert the new filter into the housing and rotate it clockwise until it clicks firmly into place. Ensure the seal is flush to prevent leaking around the mounting bracket.
- Locate the small, circular Reset button on the top or side of the electronic monitor head.
- Press and hold the Reset button for a full 5 to 10 seconds. Do not release it prematurely.
- Observe the LED indicator; it should stop alternating red/blue and return to a solid blue or green state, indicating the timer has been zeroed out for another 2-month cycle.
- Flush the system by running cold water through the filter for 60 seconds to remove any loose carbon fines (black specks) before drinking.
If That Didn't Work
- Hard Reset the Electronics: If the light continues to flash after a standard reset, the monitor may be glitched. Remove the batteries from the indicator housing (if applicable to your specific mounting bracket version) or disconnect the power source for 60 seconds. Reinsert the batteries and attempt the hold-and-press reset sequence again.

- Battery Replacement: If the flashing is erratic or dim, the coin-cell or AA batteries powering the LED monitor may be dying. Replace the batteries using a small Phillips head screwdriver to open the monitor casing.
