DIAGNOSIS When a device is paused or on a schedule but still has internet access, it almost always means that device has switched to using cellular data (on a phone/tablet) or has connected to a different, uncontrolled Wi-Fi network (like a neighbor's). The router controls can only affect traffic on *your* network.
FIX First, verify the device is actually connected to your Atlas Wi-Fi. On the device, check the Wi-Fi symbol. If it's not there, the controls won't work. If it is connected, go into the Linksys app. 1) Go to Parental Controls or the device list. 2) Find the device in question. 3) Make sure the pause button is actually red (paused) or the schedule is active. Sometimes the app interface can be laggy—toggle the pause off and on again. 4) Most importantly, force the device to reconnect to Wi-Fi. On the device, turn Wi-Fi off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on, re-selecting your network.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The device might have a persistent connection cache. On the router side, try a "device block" instead of a pause. Block the device completely for a minute, then unblock it. This forces a much cleaner disconnection and often resets the control hooks. You can find the block option in the device details in the app.
HEADS UP Tech-savvy kids know tricks. If the device is a computer, they can manually change their device's MAC address (the unique ID the router uses to recognize it) to bypass the controls. If you suspect this, you'll need to set up controls based on a fixed schedule for the entire network or use the "Guest Network" for controlled access instead of device-specific rules.
