the tip-over switch on my heater is too sensitive, it shuts off if i barely nudge it

— asked by Casey

Quick answer: The tip-over safety switch inside the base is a simple mechanical pendulum. If it's overly sensitive, the unit isn't level, the floor is uneven, or the switch mechanism itself is sticking or misaligned.

Diagnosis

The tip-over safety switch inside the base is a simple mechanical pendulum. If it's overly sensitive, the unit isn't level, the floor is uneven, or the switch mechanism itself is sticking or misaligned.

How to Fix It

First, move the heater to the flattest, most level spot you can find—avoid uneven floorboards or thick carpets. Use a small level on top of the heater to check. If it's still tripping, unplug it, carefully tilt it to access the underside, and check for any obvious debris (lint, pet hair) obstructing the plastic pendulum switch in the base. Gently clear anything you find.

If That Didn't Work

The switch mechanism itself might be faulty. There's no user-serviceable adjustment. A persistently oversensitive tip-over switch is a warranty/support issue. Contact Pelonis, as it's a critical safety component.

Heads Up

Never attempt to disable the tip-over switch. It's there to prevent a fire if the heater falls over. An overly sensitive one is annoying, but a disabled one is a major hazard.
