Diagnosis
You’ve got a clog somewhere in the water system, most commonly in the filter itself or in the screen where the water line connects to the fridge.
How to Fix It
Start with the filter. 1) Shut off the water supply valve behind the fridge. 2) Remove the old water filter by turning it counterclockwise. 3) Before putting the new one in, check the filter housing inside the fridge for any little bits of carbon or debris—wipe it out. 4) Install the new filter by turning it clockwise until it clicks and the indicator resets. 5) Turn the water back on and flush at least 2 gallons through the dispenser (into a pitcher) to clear air and activate the filter. The flow should be strong.
If That Didn't Work
The next suspect is the inlet water screen. You’ll need to pull the fridge out carefully. 1) Shut off the water supply. 2) Disconnect the copper or plastic water line from the valve at the back of the fridge. 3) There’s a small plastic nut with a fine mesh screen inside it where the line connects. Use pliers to gently unscrew it and pull out the screen. 4) Rinse it clean under the tap, reinstall it, reconnect the line, turn the water on, and check for leaks before pushing the fridge back.
Heads Up
Always use genuine or high-quality replacement water filters. Knock-off filters can have poor flow or even leak. And remember to change that filter every 6 months, even if you don’t use much water, because sediment builds up over time.
