The loud rattling or buzzing noise experienced at the highest fan speed (Speed 4/Turbo) on the Medify MA-40 V2.0 is typically caused by mechanical resonance. At maximum RPM, the powerful centrifugal fan creates significant air pressure and vibration. If the pre-filter or the HEPA filter assembly is not seated with 100% precision, the high-velocity airflow causes the plastic frame of the filter to vibrate against the interior chassis of the unit, resulting in a rapid, metallic-sounding rattle or a low-frequency buzz.
Another common cause is "filter bypass" or gaps in the seal. When the filter frame is slightly skewed, air escapes through the gaps instead of passing through the media. This turbulence creates a whistling or buzzing sound that intensifies as the fan speed increases. You can confirm this by placing your hand around the edges of the filter while the unit is running on Turbo; if you feel a concentrated stream of air escaping from the sides rather than being pulled through the filter, the seal is compromised.
How to Fix It
To eliminate the vibration and restore silent operation, follow these precise calibration steps:
- Power down the unit completely and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet to prevent accidental activation.
- Remove the front plastic grille by depressing the locking tabs located at the bottom of the panel.
- Extract the pre-filter (the thin, washable outer layer) and the main HEPA filter assembly.
- Inspect the interior edges of the MA-40 chassis for any debris, cardboard scraps from packaging, or misalignment of the guide rails.
- Re-insert the HEPA filter, ensuring it is pushed firmly into the rear of the housing. You should feel a definitive "thump" as it seats against the motor housing.
- Slide the pre-filter over the HEPA filter. Ensure the plastic perimeter of the pre-filter is flush against the unit's inner walls. If the pre-filter frame is warped, gently bend the plastic corners back into a square shape.
- Reinstall the front panel. Instead of just pushing the center, apply firm, even pressure starting from the top corners and moving down to the bottom clips. You must hear a distinct "click" on both the left and right sides to ensure the panel is compressing the filter frame securely against the chassis.
- Plug the unit back in and test it starting at Speed 1, gradually moving to Speed 4.
If That Didn't Work
- Check for Fan Obstructions: Use a flashlight to look through the filter intake area toward the fan blades. A small piece of plastic or a clump of dust may have bypassed the filter and is striking the fan blades at high RPM. Use a can of compressed air to blow out the fan housing.
- Level the Surface: The MA-40 V2.0 is heavy and can vibrate if placed on an uneven floor or a hollow wooden surface. Place the unit on a thick rubber anti-vibration mat or a firm, level hardwood/tile floor to stop the chassis from resonating with the floor.
- Inspect Filter Integrity: If you are using a third-party replacement filter, it may be 1-2mm off in dimension. This creates a gap that allows the filter to "dance" inside the housing at high speeds. Ensure you are using genuine Medify replacement filters that match the exact tolerances of the V2.0 chassis.
- Motor Bearing Wear: If the noise is a high-pitched metallic screeching rather than a plastic rattle, the motor bearings may be failing. This is rare but occurs if the unit has been run 24/7 for several years without filter changes, causing the motor to overwork. This requires a professional motor assembly replacement.

- Filter Saturation: A heavily clogged filter increases static pressure, forcing the motor to work harder and increasing the likelihood of vibration. Replace filters every 6-12 months depending on air quality.
