airflow from my levoit feels really weak even on the highest setting, did i do something wrong?

Airflow degradation in Levoit purifiers—specifically the Core series commonly used in bedrooms and dorms—is almost always caused by a restriction in the intake path or a failure in the pressure differential between the fan and the filter. When the fan spins at maximum RPM but the exhaust vent feels weak, the motor is fighting against a "wall" of resistance. This is typically caused by the accumulation of large particulate matter (pet hair, dander, and dust) on the outer pre-filter layer, which creates a physical barrier that prevents air from reaching the impeller. In many cases, especially with new units, the issue is a "forgotten plastic" scenario. Levoit ships their HEPA filters sealed in a thick, airtight plastic wrap to maintain sterility. If this wrap isn't removed, the fan will spin, but the air cannot penetrate the plastic, resulting in a slight breeze at the top but virtually zero actual air purification. You can confirm this by placing a thin piece of tissue paper over the intake vents; if the paper doesn't snap firmly against the grill on the highest setting, your airflow is obstructed.

How to Fix It

Follow these steps in order to restore maximum CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) airflow to your unit:

1. Verify Filter Installation: Power off the unit and unplug it from the wall. Rotate the base or open the filter hatch (depending on your specific Core model). Remove the cylindrical filter and inspect it closely. If you see a clear plastic wrap around the filter, remove it and discard it. Ensure the filter is seated flush against the bottom of the housing.
