This is most often caused by a filter that isn't seated flush, residual plastic packaging creating a vacuum effect, or a foreign object (like pet hair clumps) interfering with the fan blades. In some cases, the unit may be vibrating against an uneven surface, amplifying the sound of the motor at high RPMs.

How to Fix It

Follow these steps to isolate and resolve the noise:

1. Power Down: Turn off the unit and unplug it from the wall to prevent the fan from spinning while you inspect it.
2. Verify Filter Installation: Open the filter compartment. Remove the filter and re-insert it firmly, ensuring it is seated completely flush against the housing. If the filter is skewed, it can vibrate against the chassis at high speeds.
3. Check for Packaging: Confirm that the plastic shrink-wrap has been entirely removed from the filter. Even a small piece of remaining plastic can be sucked into the fan, causing a loud rattling or flapping sound.
