Some heat is normal during heavy use, but excessive heat is a warning sign.
The battery and tool can get hot during operations like drilling metal. Wear gloves to handle them. However, if it's too hot to touch comfortably, stop immediately. Let it cool down before charging or using it again.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: The cause could be abusive conditions or using the wrong battery. Use only D WALT 20V MAX battery packs specified for this tool. Using other packs may create a risk of fire. Also, do not operate the tool for long periods without rest—take frequent breaks to let it cool.
HEADS UP: Under abusive conditions, liquid can be ejected from the battery. Avoid contact. If contact occurs, flush with water. If it gets in your eyes, flush with water and seek medical help. Store idle batteries away from metal objects like paper clips or coins that can short the terminals.
