brita pitcher lid won't close all the way, it's stuck open

— asked by Taylor

This usually happens if the fill lid isn't seated correctly on its hinge or if the reservoir is overfilled.

  1. First, empty the pitcher and reservoir completely.
  2. Check the fill lid. Make sure it's centered on the hinge pin at the back of the reservoir.
  3. Gently press down on the lid near the hinge to ensure it's fully seated.
  4. Now, refill the reservoir. If your model has a "Max Fill" line, do not exceed it. If it doesn't, fill it with cold tap water and stop before the water touches the bottom of the closed lid.
  5. Close the lid firmly. It should latch shut.

If it's still stuck, inspect for debris or a warped lid. Hand-wash the lid with mild detergent, rinse well, and let it air dry completely before trying again.
