This printer operates exclusively on the 2.4GHz band; when the router tries to "force" the printer onto the 5GHz band or switches frequencies during the handshake process, the connection drops, resulting in a generic "Connection Failed" or "Unable to obtain IP address" error. Additionally, this model often struggles with WPA3 encryption. If your router is set to "WPA3 Only" or "WPA2/WPA3 Mixed," the printer's wireless card may fail to authenticate the security handshake. You can confirm this is a network issue if other devices in the same room are connected, but the printer fails specifically at the "Connecting" stage of the Setup Wizard despite the correct password being entered.
How to Fix It
To resolve this, you must clear the printer's network cache and force a manual connection to a compatible frequency. Follow these exact steps:
- Perform a Hard Network Reset: Press the Settings (Wrench/Screwdriver icon) button. Navigate to Network > Network Reset. Select Yes to confirm. The printer will restart; this clears any stale IP assignments or corrupted SSID profiles.
- Configure Router Banding: Access your router's admin panel via a web browser. Temporarily disable "Smart Connect" or "Band Steering." Create a separate SSID specifically for your 2.4GHz band (e.g., "MyHomeWiFi_2.4"). This ensures the printer does not attempt to jump to the 5GHz frequency.
