can i run a 24 inch bar on my husqvarna 455 rancher? it came with a 20 inch.

Yeah, this is a common ask, but you really shouldn't. The 455 Rancher is designed and powered for a specific bar range, usually up to 20 inches.

Putting a 24-inch bar on it strains the engine. It has to pull a lot more chain through the wood, which bogs it down, increases wear dramatically, and can lead to dangerous kickback situations because the power-to-length ratio is off. The oil pump is also calibrated for a certain bar length; a longer bar might not get adequate lubrication at the tip.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: If you absolutely need to cut larger diameter wood, the proper tool is a saw designed for a longer bar, like the 460 Rancher 24-inch model. It has the extra displacement (60.3cc vs. the 455's 50.2cc) and torque to handle it safely.

HEADS UP: Always use the bar and chain combination specified for your model. Going outside the manufacturer's specs voids warranty and is a safety risk.
