can i use my deco x20 as just a wifi extender for my existing router?

— asked by Ryan

Yes. That function is called Access Point (AP) mode. In this mode, your Deco takes an internet signal from your existing router and creates a Wi-Fi mesh network, extending coverage without performing router duties.

To set it up:

  1. Set up your Deco system normally using the app, connecting the main Deco to a LAN port on your existing router (not its WAN port).
  2. During or after setup, open the Deco app menu.
  3. Tap Advanced.
  4. Tap Operating Mode.
  5. Select Access Point mode. The app will guide you through the change.

Note: In Access Point mode, these advanced features become unavailable: Parental Controls, QoS, IPv4 settings, Address Reservation, Port Forwarding, and the DHCP server. Your main router continues to handle those tasks.

HEADS UP: For the simplest setup, disable the Wi-Fi on your existing router and let the Deco mesh handle all wireless coverage. This prevents device roaming issues between two different Wi-Fi networks.
