can't get the pro to connect during setup, my phone just keeps searching forever

— asked by Jamie

Quick answer: The setup process is failing because your phone can't talk directly to the iSmartGate unit to give it your Wi-Fi info. This is almost always a phone or router setting issue.

Diagnosis

The setup process is failing because your phone can't talk directly to the iSmartGate unit to give it your Wi-Fi info. This is almost always a phone or router setting issue.

How to Fix It

Follow this sequence exactly. 1) On your iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure you are connected to your home's 2.4GHz network (not the 5GHz one). 2) Then, go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth ON. The app uses Bluetooth for the initial handshake. 3) Now, open the iSmartGate app and start the 'Add Device' process. It should find the unit. 4) When it asks for your Wi-Fi password, type it carefully. Case matters.

If That Didn't Work

Your router might have a security feature called 'AP Isolation' or 'Client Isolation' enabled. This prevents devices on the same Wi-Fi from talking to each other, which breaks setup. You'll need to log into your router's settings (check ) and temporarily disable that feature for the setup, then turn it back on after.

Heads Up

During setup, keep your phone within 10 feet of the iSmartGate Pro unit. The Bluetooth signal isn't super strong, especially inside a metal garage. And close any other apps on your phone—sometimes a busy phone can drop the fragile setup connection.
