Some warmth is normal, but excessive heat is a problem. First, check the charger's placement.
- Unplug the charger immediately if the battery is excessively hot.
- Never place any object on top of the charger. Do not place the charger on a soft surface like a bed or couch.
- The charger vents through slots in the top and bottom. Blocking these slots causes excessive internal heat. Place the charger on a hard, flat surface away from any heat source.
- Let the battery cool down to room temperature. The charger has a HOT/COLD DELAY feature and will not charge a battery outside its temperature range.
- Reinsert the battery and monitor the temperature.
If that didn't work, you may be using the wrong battery. Charge only DeWalt 20V Max rechargeable battery packs. Other battery types may overheat and burst.
Heads up: Do not operate a charger that has been dropped, received a sharp blow, or is otherwise damaged. Take it to an authorized service center.
