That funky taste means mineral scale and coffee oils have built up. You'll want to run a cleaning cycle with vinegar.

1. First, remove the optional water filter if you have one installed.
2. Pour 1 pint (2 cups / 473 ml) of plain white vinegar into the water reservoir.
3. Press the ON button to start a brew cycle. Let it run for about 30 seconds, then press OFF. Now, let the vinegar sit in the system for 30 minutes to dissolve the scale.
4. After 30 minutes, press ON again and let the full vinegar cycle run through.
5. Finally, run 2-3 complete brew cycles with clean water only to rinse out any vinegar residue. Let the unit cool between cycles.

For regular upkeep, the carafe and filter basket are top-rack dishwasher safe, but do NOT use the dishwasher's "SANI" setting—the high heat can damage the parts. Wipe the outside of the machine with a damp cloth.
