how do i take apart the k-cup holder on my keurig to clean it? scared of the needles.

— asked by Danielle

It's designed to be removed safely. Just be mindful of the two sharp needles—one at the top and one at the bottom of the holder.

Here's how, step-by-step:

  1. First, unplug the brewer for safety.
  2. Press the large 'PRESS TO OPEN' button on top.
  3. Grasp the top of the K-Cup Holder with one hand. With your other hand, push up on the bottom of the holder from underneath. It will release.
  4. To clean the exit needle (the one that gets clogged), pull the funnel off the holder.
  5. Insert a paper clip into the hole of the exit needle at the bottom to clear any coffee grounds.
  6. You can rinse the holder under the faucet or wash it in the dishwasher. The funnel is also dishwasher safe.
  7. To reassemble, snap the funnel back onto the holder. Align the holder using the two front ribs as a guide and snap it into place from the top.

Remember, the entrance needle above where the holder sits does not require cleaning. And never put your fingers inside the K-Cup chamber.
