i get a 'camera failed to connect' error when trying to add my new arlo pro 4, the status light just blinks amber.

Quick answer: The camera is stuck in its setup mode. A sync process timeout or incorrect button press sequence causes this.

Diagnosis

The camera is stuck in its setup mode. A sync process timeout or incorrect button press sequence causes this.

How to Fix It

Factory reset the camera. Use a paperclip to press and hold the reset button (inside the pinhole on the camera body) for about 15 seconds. Release when the status LED blinks amber three times. Place the camera within 1-2 feet of the base station and try the sync process in the app again.

If That Didn't Work

Your base station firmware may be outdated. Update it first: in the app, go to Settings > My Devices > select your base station > Device Info > Firmware > Update.

Heads Up

During sync, press the sync button on the camera first, THEN on the base station, within 30 seconds. The order matters. The status light should flash blue, not amber, during a successful sync.
