Quick answer: The bump feed mechanism on the Speed-Load™ head is not advancing trimmer line. The most common cause is incorrect line installation, preventing the spool from rotating.

Diagnosis

The bump feed mechanism on the Speed-Load™ head is not advancing trimmer line. The most common cause is incorrect line installation, preventing the spool from rotating.

How to Fix It

Remove the spool. Check 1: You have exactly 0.095" diameter line. Check 2: The line is cut to the specified 20-foot length. Check 3: Both line ends are seated fully into the notches on the spool's interior hub before reassembly. Check 4: When reassembling, the arrows on the spool and head are aligned. Manually pull 6-8 inches of line out before the first use.

If That Didn't Work

The spring in the bump mechanism may be bound by debris or a defective spool. Clean any grass or debris from the spool cavity. Try a genuine Milwaukee replacement spool (49-16-2725).

Heads Up

Do not tap the head on the ground while the tool is running. This can damage the electronic clutch and does not activate the feed on this model. Advance line only when the motor is at full operating RPM.
