DIAGNOSIS The router is performing a channel scan. This is often triggered by enabling 'Smart Connect' or 'Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence' on the 2.4GHz band. The scan causes brief, universal disconnects.

FIX Log into the router's interface. Navigate to Advanced > Advanced Setup > Wireless Settings. For the 2.4GHz band, click the 'Advanced Settings' button. Locate 'Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence' and UNCHECK the box. Click Apply. This prevents the forced scans that cause drops.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK A firmware bug can cause similar drops. Check your firmware version in Advanced > Administration > Firmware Update. Compare it to the latest version on Netgear's support site for the RAX50. If out of date, upload the new firmware file manually. Do not rely on the auto-update.

HEADS UP Do not set the control channel to 'Auto' for the 5GHz band. Manually select a channel like 36, 40, 44, or 48 in the 5GHz Advanced Settings. 'Auto' can cause the router to switch channels mid-connection, dropping clients.
