installing my honeywell t9 and the manual says i need a c-wire but i don't see one, now what?

You have two options: find an unused wire in your wall bundle to use as a C-wire, or install the included C-Wire Adapter.

First, check for an unused wire:

  • Look at the bundle of wires coming from the wall. You may need to gently pull the bundle out to see all wires.
  • Identify any wire not already connected to a terminal on your old thermostat. Common colors for unused wires are blue or black, but any color is possible.
  • If you find one, label it with the provided "C" sticker. You may need to strip 1/4 inch of insulation.
If you have an unused wire, you must connect it at the furnace too:
  1. Go to your furnace/air handler control board.
  2. Find the same bundle of wires there.
  3. Connect the same-color unused wire to the C-terminal on the control board.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK / NO UNUSED WIRE: Use the C-Wire Adapter in the box. Follow its separate instruction guide. Note: If you have a zoned system (multiple thermostats, one furnace), adapter installation is complex. Call 1-855-733-5465 for a pro.
