DIAGNOSIS This is a common false alarm on these printers. It often means the print carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges) can't move freely because a tiny piece of paper, a label, or even a bit of packing material is blocking its path inside.
FIX 1) Turn the printer OFF using the power button on the back. 2) Open the front door and the ink cartridge access door. 3) Look deep inside. Use a flashlight. Check for any foreign objects in the track the carriage slides on. 4) Gently slide the carriage from side to side with your hand. It should move smoothly. If it's stuck, feel for the obstruction and carefully remove it. 5) Close all doors and turn the printer back on.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Sometimes the error persists in memory. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer for a full two minutes. Plug it back in and power on. This hard reset can clear the stuck error.
HEADS UP Never force the carriage. If it truly won't budge, there might be a mechanical failure. Forcing it can break the plastic belt or motor.
