Diagnosis
You're trying to steam with the brew lever in the wrong position. On the Classic Pro, the steam wand and hot water dispenser are controlled by the same knob, but the brew lever position dictates which one is active.
How to Fix It
- Turn the steam knob (the one on the left) fully counter-clockwise to the off position.
- Pull the brew lever (the big one on the right) up to engage the pump. Let it run for about 10 seconds to purge any residual water from the steam wand.
- Now, flip the steam switch on the front panel to turn on the steam boiler heater. Wait for the orange steam ready light to come on.
- Once the light is on, turn the steam knob clockwise to open it. You should now have dry steam from the wand tip.
If That Didn't Work
Check that the steam wand tip isn't clogged with dried milk. Unscrew the tip (it's a standard 4-hole tip) and soak it in hot water or a cleaning solution like Rinza.
Heads Up
Always purge the steam wand for a few seconds after steaming and wipe it clean immediately. This prevents milk from baking solid inside the tiny holes, which is the most common cause of a weak steam stream.
