The side-to-side wobble in your Bosch GST18V-60CN is typically caused by one of two failures: a loss of tension in the eccentric clamping mechanism or a misalignment of the guide roller assembly. When the blade lacks a rigid axial hold, it oscillates during the stroke, creating "wandering" cuts where the blade deviates from the intended line and leaves jagged, rough edges on the workpiece. This is often exacerbated when using thinner blades or when cutting denser hardwoods. To confirm the root cause, unplug the tool and remove the battery. Insert a blade and gently try to wiggle it laterally. If there is a gap between the blade shank and the clamp's internal gripping surface, the eccentric roller mechanism is worn or stripped. If the blade is tight at the clamp but wobbles significantly further up the stroke, the guide roller (the small wheel that stabilizes the blade) has either shifted out of position or the bearing inside the roller has failed, allowing the blade to drift.
How to Fix It
To resolve lateral play and restore cutting precision, follow these steps to calibrate the guide system and inspect the clamp:
- Inspect the Guide Roller: Locate the guide roller assembly positioned just above the blade clamp. Ensure the roller is spinning freely. If it is stuck or skewed, it will push the blade off-center.
- Adjust the Roller Tension: Use a 3mm hex key to loosen the set screw on the guide roller assembly. Manually shift the roller so it is perfectly centered and maintains light, consistent contact with the side of the blade.
- Secure the Setting: While holding the roller in the centered position, tighten the set screw firmly. Over-tightening can warp the roller bracket, so apply firm pressure but do not force it.
- Test the Clamp Engagement: Open the tool-less lever and insert a high-quality T-shank blade. Ensure the blade is pushed fully into the seat until you feel it bottom out. Close the lever firmly.
- Verify the Eccentric Roller: If the blade still wobbles at the base, the internal eccentric roller (the mechanism that locks the blade) is likely worn. You will need to replace the entire blade clamp assembly using Bosch part number 1619P0100. This requires removing the base plate and the internal spring assembly to swap the clamp housing.
If That Didn't Work
- Check for Blade Deflection: If you are using a "Fast Cut" blade with large teeth, these are prone to natural deflection. Switch to a "Clean for Wood" blade with a finer tooth pitch to see if the wobble persists. If the finer blade stays straight, the tool is fine, but the blade geometry was the issue.
- Inspect the Foot Plate: Check the screws securing the metal base plate. If the plate is loose or warped, the tool will tilt during the cut, making it appear as though the blade is wobbling. Tighten all mounting screws to 4Nm of torque.
- Analyze the Bearing Housing: If the wobble is accompanied by a loud rattling sound, the main drive spindle bearing may be worn. This is a structural failure. Check for axial play by pushing the blade clamp up and down; if it moves vertically, the internal drive gear or bearing is shot.
- Verify Blade Shank Compatibility: Ensure you are using genuine T-shank blades. Some third-party blades have slightly undersized shanks that do not seat perfectly in the Bosch eccentric clamp, leading to inevitable lateral play.

- Blade Selection: Always match the blade to the material. Using a coarse-tooth blade on thin veneers will always result in rough edges, regardless of how stable the clamp is.
- Cleaning: Use compressed air to blow out the blade clamp area every few projects. Packed sawdust inside the eccentric mechanism can prevent the clamp from closing fully, leading to blade slip.
