A grinding noise usually means a mechanical obstruction. Stop printing immediately.
- Power off the printer.
- Inspect for a paper jam. Remove all paper from the front tray. Look inside for any torn scraps or foreign objects.
- Check the FINE cartridge holder area. Do not touch or force it. Ensure cartridges are seated correctly.
- Power back on. Listen if the noise recurs during startup.
If that didn't work: The noise could be from the paper feed rollers trying to grip without paper during a cleaning cycle. If you initiated a roller cleaning (Alarm lamp flashes seven times), let it complete. The rollers will spin and then stop. Do not interrupt.
Heads up: Never hold the FINE cartridge holder to stop or move it forcibly. Do not touch it until it stops completely. If the noise persists with no jam found, a component may be damaged—contact service.
