Diagnosis
A complete lack of response—no motor hum or pump noise—points to an interruption in the electrical circuit powering the unit. For the Greenworks GPW1804, this is almost always due to one of three issues: no power reaching the unit, the safety interlock circuit not being completed, or a tripped thermal overload protector.
How to Fix It
Follow these steps in order:
- Verify Power Source: Ensure the pressure washer is plugged into a working 120V outlet. Test the outlet with another device.
- Check the Main Switch: Confirm the unit's power switch is flipped to the "ON" (|) position, not "OFF" (O).
- Complete the Safety Circuit: The pump motor will only engage if the spray gun trigger is squeezed while the unit is on. With the power switch ON, pull the trigger and hold it.
- Reset the Thermal Protector: If the motor overheated, the internal thermal overload will trip. Unplug the unit, wait 30 minutes for it to cool completely, then plug it back in and try again.
- Inspect Cords & Connections: Examine the entire power cord for damage. Ensure all connections are dry and the cord is fully seated in the unit's inlet.
If That Didn't Work
If the unit remains dead, the issue may be internal. First, try a different, known-good outlet on a separate circuit to rule out a weak household circuit. If still no power, the problem likely lies with a failed on/off switch, a faulty trigger safety switch, or the thermal protector itself. These components require disassembly and a multimeter to test for continuity and would need replacement by a qualified technician.

Never operate the pressure washer with a frayed or damaged power cord, and always use a GFCI-protected outlet. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination; keep all electrical connections elevated and dry during use and storage.
