Oil leaks typically come from the oil tank cap, the oil pump, or the tank itself.
- First, check the oil tank cap. Ensure the rubber seal is intact and the cap is screwed on tightly and evenly. A cracked seal or cross-threaded cap is a common leak source.
- Inspect the oil pump and its connections. The oil pump feeds lubricant to the bar and chain. A faulty pump seal or a loose hose connection can cause a persistent leak.
- Store the saw correctly. Always store it on a level surface with the bar nose raised slightly higher than the rear. Storing it flat or with the bar tip down can cause oil to siphon out through the oiling system.
If that didn't work, the oil tank itself may have a crack. Look for hairline fractures, especially near mounting points.
Heads up: Only use specified bar and chain oil. Using motor oil or other substitutes can damage the pump and seals, leading to leaks.
