my old thermostat had a jumper between rc and rh, what do i do with it for the honeywell t9?

— asked by Jake

Do not install the jumper. The T9 manages the Rc/Rh connection internally with an R-switch.

Remove the jumper from your old thermostat and leave it out. Do not put it on the new T9 wall plate.

On the T9 wall plate, set the correct R-switch position:

  • If you have a single wire coming from the wall that was connected to either Rc or Rh, set the right R-switch to the UP position. Insert that single wire into the R-terminal on the T9.
  • If you have two separate wires coming from the wall (one was in Rc and one was in Rh), set the right R-switch to the DOWN position. Insert the Rc wire into the Rc-terminal and the Rh wire into the R-terminal.

If the thermostat does not power your system correctly, the R-switch is likely in the wrong position. Verify your wiring and adjust the switch.
