my orbi 960 satellite keeps flashing a solid magenta ring and won't connect to the router, what do i do?

— asked by Jordan

Quick answer: The satellite can't establish a connection to the router. This usually means the sync/connection process failed or the distance is too great.

Diagnosis

The satellite can't establish a connection to the router. This usually means the sync/connection process failed or the distance is too great.

How to Fix It

Move the satellite much closer to the router, ideally in the same room. Press the sync button on the back of the router, then press the sync button on the satellite within 2 minutes. Wait for the ring to turn solid white. After it syncs, power it down, move it to its final location, and power it back up.

If That Didn't Work

Perform a factory reset on the satellite using a paperclip in the recessed reset hole. Hold for 7 seconds until the ring flashes magenta, then release. Let it reboot and try the sync process again from scratch.

Heads Up

The 960 series requires a near-perfect sync during initial setup. Don't skip the 'sync in the same room' step even if your final placement seems close enough.
