my portable ac keeps shutting off after a few minutes and the display shows E1, what does that mean?

Quick answer: Error code E1 indicates a full internal condensate tank. The auto-evaporation system cannot keep up with the humidity level.

Diagnosis

Error code E1 indicates a full internal condensate tank. The auto-evaporation system cannot keep up with the humidity level.

How to Fix It

Power the unit off. Check that the lower drain plug (behind the bottom service panel) is securely closed. Ensure the unit is on a level floor. Restart. In very humid conditions, you may need to manually drain the unit using the provided drain hose on the plug.

If That Didn't Work

The internal float switch or condensate pump may be stuck or faulty. Gently tilt the unit side-to-side to dislodge a stuck float. If E1 persists, the sensor or pump requires repair.

Heads Up

Running the unit in Dry (dehumidifier) mode in a very humid room will generate condensate much faster, triggering E1 more frequently. Use Cool mode for primary operation.
