my ryobi drill is making a weird clicking noise and won't spin

Probable causes: faulty chuck, jammed gear, or tripped protection system.

1. Remove the battery. Manually try to turn the chuck. If it doesn't turn freely, debris is jammed inside.
2. Inspect the chuck jaws. Ensure they are aligned and gripping the bit evenly.
3. Re-insert the battery. Listen if the click is electronic (from the tool) or mechanical (from the chuck/gears).

If that didn't work:

• Electronic clicking: The battery's IntelliCell™ protection is cycling due to a fault. Try a different ONE+ 18V battery.
• Mechanical clicking: Gearbox or chuck mechanism failure. Do not force it.

Heads up: The electronic system protects the tool and battery from damage due to overload or excessive heat. Persistent clicking after a battery swap indicates a need for service.
