i added a new eero 6 extender but the app says 'placement not ideal' and my speeds are worse now.

Stop when the app says 'Great placement'. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Your home layout may require a wired connection for that location. If you cannot run ethernet, consider using MoCA adapters if you have coaxial cable outlets or a powerline networking kit as a last resort. Connect the new eero's WAN port to that wired connection. HEADS UP Adding too many eeros too close together can cause interference and slow down the whole network. Do not add nodes unless you have consistent weak signal areas. More is not always better.

after a power outage, my eeros won't reconnect to each other, they all just pulse blue.

DIAGNOSIS The network failed to reform correctly after power was restored. The gateway eero may have booted slower than the satellites. FIX Power down the entire system. Unplug all eeros. Start with the gateway eero. Plug it in and wait. The light will pulse blue, then go solid white. This means it has a working internet connection. Wait a full 2 minutes after it turns solid white. Now plug in your nearest satellite. Wait for it to connect and go solid white. Repeat for each satellite, one at a time, moving outward from the gateway. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The power outage may have corrupted the gateway's software. Perform a soft reset on the gateway eero only. Press and release the reset button on the bottom once. The light will flash blue. The eero will reboot and rebuild the network. This does not erase settings. HEADS UP For frequent outages, plug your modem and gateway eero into a good UPS (battery backup). This keeps the gateway online long enough to guide the satellites back online smoothly when power returns.

my eero 6 gets really hot to the touch on the top, is that normal or is it going to break?

DIAGNOSIS This is normal operation. The eero 6 has no internal fan. It dissipates heat through its plastic casing. FIX Ensure it has adequate ventilation. Do not place it inside an enclosed entertainment center, on top of a cable box or game console, or under stacked papers. Leave at least 2 inches of clear space on all sides, especially the top. Place it on a hard, flat surface. Do not mount it vertically unless using an official stand that allows airflow. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the unit is too hot to keep your hand on comfortably for more than 10 seconds, it may be defective. Unplug it and let it cool completely. Plug it into a different outlet on a different circuit. If it immediately gets extremely hot again, the internal power supply is failing. Contact support. HEADS UP Heat reduces component lifespan. Consistent overheating will shorten the device's life. Good ventilation is the only preventative maintenance for this product.

how do i hard reset my eero 6? i'm selling it and need to wipe my network off it.

DIAGNOSIS You need to perform a factory reset. This erases all configuration and removes the eero from your account. FIX Find the reset button on the bottom of the eero unit. It's a small pinhole. Use a paperclip or SIM eject tool. Press and hold the button. The light will flash yellow. Keep holding until the light flashes red. This takes about 7 seconds. Release the button immediately when you see red. The unit will reboot with a solid white light, indicating it is ready for new setup. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the light never flashed red, the unit may have been unplugged during the process. Ensure it is powered on. Press and hold the reset button for a full 15 seconds. Release. Wait 5 minutes for the full reset cycle to complete. HEADS UP A factory reset does not automatically remove the eero from your app account. You must also open your eero app, go to the device in Settings, and tap 'Remove' to delete it from your account list. Do both steps.

the wifi speed from my eero 6 is way slower than my old router, especially on my phone right next to it.

DIAGNOSIS Your device is likely connected to the 2.4 GHz band instead of the faster 5 GHz band. The eero 6 combines both bands under one network name (SSID). FIX You cannot manually band-steer on the eero 6. The system decides. To encourage a 5 GHz connection, temporarily disable the 2.4 GHz band. In the eero app, go to Settings > Troubleshooting > My device won't connect. Select the device having issues. Tap 'Temporarily pause 5 GHz'. Wait 10 seconds, then tap 'Resume'. This forces a reconnection and often pushes the device to 5 GHz. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Legacy mode may be enabled. In the app, go to Settings > Network Settings > DNS. If it's set to 'Automatic (from ISP)', change it to a public DNS like Google (8.8.8.8). Also, under Settings > Discover > eero Labs, ensure 'Band Steering' and 'Optimize for Conferencing and Gaming' are ON. HEADS UP Speed tests over WiFi are variable. The light will pulse blue then go solid white when it reconnects. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The satellite may be too far through too many walls. Run an ethernet cable from the gateway eero to this satellite's WAN port. This creates a wired backhaul, which is always more stable. The eero will automatically detect the cable. HEADS UP A red light can also mean hardware failure. If it goes red immediately on boot in a known-good location and with a wired connection, contact eero support. The unit is likely defective.

my new eero 6 just blinks a solid white light forever and won't show up in the app during setup, what do i do?

DIAGNOSIS The eero is stuck in its boot sequence. The most common cause is a bad initial handshake with your modem. FIX Power everything down. Unplug your modem and all eeros. Wait 30 seconds. Plug in just the modem. Wait for all its lights to settle. Now plug in only the single eero you're trying to set up as the gateway. Use the short ethernet cable it came with to connect the eero's WAN port to the modem. Open the app and try setup again. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Your modem may be in a bad state. Find the modem's reset pinhole. Press it for 10 seconds with a paperclip. This factory resets the modem. You will need to re-enter any ISP credentials. Then restart the entire sequence from the top. HEADS UP Never connect the eero's WAN port to a LAN port on another router. That creates a double NAT. The gateway eero must connect directly to the modem.
