This happens even if the tray is full because the sensor is measuring movement, not the presence of paper. You can confirm this by listening closely during a print attempt; if you hear a rhythmic "whirring" or "clicking" sound without the paper moving, the roller is slipping.
How to Fix It
To restore the grip of the pickup roller, you must perform a manual cleaning of the rubber surface. Follow these exact steps:
- Power down the printer completely and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet to prevent any electrical shorts or accidental movement of the carriage.
- Lift the paper input tray and remove all sheets of paper. Ensure no small scraps of paper are lodged in the feed throat.
- Locate the pickup roller. On the 2855e, this is the gray rubber cylinder located at the base of the paper feed assembly. You may need to tilt the printer slightly backward or use a flashlight to see it clearly.
