set up a new blink outdoor 4 but the app says 'cannot complete setup' after scanning the qr code, just spins forever

— asked by Taylor

Quick answer: The setup process is failing at the stage where the camera attempts to join your Local Area Network (LAN). This is usually a router compatibility or signal strength issue.

Diagnosis

The setup process is failing at the stage where the camera attempts to join your Local Area Network (LAN). This is usually a router compatibility or signal strength issue.

How to Fix It

Follow this checklist. Ensure your phone is connected to your home's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band, not 5 GHz. Disable any VPN on your phone. Place the camera and sync module within 3 feet of each other during setup. Restart your smartphone. Finally, restart your router. Now attempt setup again from the beginning.

If That Didn't Work

Your router may have a restrictive security protocol. Temporarily change your Wi-Fi security setting to WPA2-PSK (AES). Do not use WPA3-only or WPA/WPA2 mixed mode for the initial setup. You can change it back after the camera is added.

Heads Up

The QR code is only valid for the initial setup of that specific camera. If you scanned it and setup failed, you must delete the incomplete camera entry from your Blink app's Manage System > Manage Devices screen before you can try scanning the code again.
