DIAGNOSIS Over time, the weight of the door can cause the hinge bracket to loosen or shift in its mounting holes, making the door sag and not seal properly. This is a very common and fixable issue on these single-door compact units.
FIX 1) Empty the top half of the fridge so it's light. 2) Open the door fully. You'll see the hinge cover on the top edge. Pry it off carefully with a flathead screwdriver—it's just a plastic cap. 3) Underneath, you'll find two screws securing the hinge bracket to the cabinet. Using the correct size screwdriver (usually a Phillips #2), tighten these screws firmly. Don't over-torque and strip them. 4) Close the door and check the alignment. If it's still off, you can slightly loosen the screws, gently lift the door into a flush position while holding it, and then re-tighten. 5) Snap the plastic cover back on.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the door is still misaligned after tightening, the hinge pin itself might be bent. That's less common, but you can order a replacement hinge assembly from Black & Decker parts distributors online.
HEADS UP A door that doesn't seal is a major energy waster. Test the seal with the dollar bill method after your adjustment. If the door is still easy to open or the bill slides out, the gasket itself might be damaged or warped from the misalignment and need replacement.
