Diagnosis
The automatic thermal overload protector is kicking in. The motor is overheating, usually because it's not getting enough cooling. The K1700 uses the water flowing through it to cool the motor. If the water flow is restricted, it overheats fast.
How to Fix It
Let the machine cool down completely (15-20 minutes). The number one fix is ensuring maximum water flow. Check everything on the inlet side: make sure your tap is fully open, the hose isn't kinked, and the inlet filter screen (inside the hose connector on the machine) is clean. Also, never run the machine with the trigger gun closed for more than a couple minutes, as that stops water flow through the system.
If That Didn't Work
If flow is good and it still overheats, the motor's cooling fan might be obstructed. Unplug the machine and check the vents on the sides and back for leaves, grass, or dirt clogs. You can use compressed air to blow them out.
Heads Up
Don't ignore this shutdown. If you keep restarting it immediately, you risk permanently damaging the motor windings from excessive heat, which is a terminal failure for the unit.
