The Levoit Core 300 utilizes a capacitive touch-sensitive control panel rather than mechanical switches. When the night light remains illuminated despite repeated presses of the crescent-moon icon, the root cause is typically a "ghost touch" or a logic freeze in the onboard control board. This happens when a static charge builds up on the surface of the plastic housing or when the internal microprocessor fails to register the signal transition from the touch sensor to the LED driver. In some cases, the issue is physical contamination. A thin layer of oily residue, dust, or moisture on the touch panel can create a conductive bridge that tricks the sensor into thinking the button is being held down or is completely unresponsive. To confirm this is a software glitch versus a hardware failure, observe the other buttons; if the Fan Speed or Power buttons are also lagging or unresponsive, the control board is likely frozen. If only the night light is affected, the issue is localized to that specific sensor circuit or the LED bulb itself has shorted in the "on" position.
How to Fix It
Follow these precise steps to clear the sensor logic and reset the lighting cycle:
- Power down the unit by pressing the Power button. Do not simply unplug it yet; use the interface first.
- Locate a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Firmly wipe the entire control panel, specifically focusing on the crescent-moon Night Light button, to remove any skin oils or conductive dust.
- Disconnect the power cord directly from the rear of the unit and unplug the plug from the wall outlet.
- Leave the unit completely powered down for exactly 5 minutes. This allows the capacitors on the control board to fully discharge, clearing any cached errors in the volatile memory.
- Plug the unit back into the wall and reconnect the cord to the purifier.
- Power the unit on. Press the Night Light button slowly and deliberately. The Core 300 cycles through three stages: High Brightness > Low Brightness > Off. Press it three times to ensure you have cycled through the full loop to the "Off" state.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a "Static Discharge" sequence. While the unit is unplugged, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds. This drains any residual electricity from the circuit board that might be keeping the LED driver active. Plug it back in and test the night light button again.
- Check for external interference. If the Core 300 is placed directly under a high-intensity lamp or in direct sunlight, the infrared interference can sometimes disrupt the capacitive touch sensors. Move the unit to a shaded area and attempt to toggle the light again.
- Inspect the housing for warping. If the unit has been dropped or bumped, the internal plastic chassis may be pressing against the touch sensor from the inside. Gently apply pressure to the plastic frame around the buttons to see if the light toggles, which indicates a mechanical misalignment.
- Test for "Ghosting" by cleaning the area with 70% Isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab. Apply the alcohol only to the edges of the button to remove stubborn grime that a dry cloth cannot reach, then let it dry completely for 2 minutes before powering on.

- Avoid using wet wipes or spray cleaners directly on the control panel; liquid seeping into the seams can permanently short the capacitive sensors, leading to a total control board failure.
- The night light is a low-voltage LED; if you hear a faint buzzing sound coming from the panel while the light is stuck on, this indicates a failed capacitor on the board and the unit will require a professional repair or replacement.
- Always ensure the filter is seated correctly. While it seems unrelated, a severely misaligned filter can cause the unit to vibrate excessively, which in rare cases can loosen the ribbon cable connecting the touch panel to the main board.
